Biography:

The Mosa Funk Club is a funky communications collective, straight from the heart of the east end of Glasgow, with a fierce ambition and a commitment to keeping rhythm, rhyme and soul at the forefront of their agenda.

Firstly, a word of advice. If your idea of funk begins and ends with the theme tune from Shaft, retro silver hot pants or Huggy Bear's latest strides, forget it: this is the genuine article - musical tourists and posturing scenesters out for the next shallow trend to follow need not apply. Sure we take inspiration from the greats - Brown, Mayfield, Clinton - but its a deconstructed, destroyed, mashed up and rebuilt take on funk thats decidedly this century.

Akin to the champion boxer the MFC attack the staid music scene with a full frontal assault - stinging rhythmical blows from the lean and hungry, growl of a live band has the competition running for cover. Rest assured, the whole MFC experience is a revelation to the uninitiated; a potent package in the most righteous of hands.

Recent Mosa Funk Club campaigns include:

  • Headline shows on the west coast at venues such as the world famous Arches, the Sub Club, Oran Mor, The Soundhaus, Carnival Arts Centre and the Glasgow School of art (with Mungo's Hi Fi and JSS)
  • It's NEVER been quiet on the Eastern Front, courtesy of our recuring appearances at the premier east coast shindig Saturday Night Fish Fry @ the Jazz Bar, hosted by the notorious Astroboy & Erik Da Viking.
  • Not forgetting shows at other top Edinburgh joints: Cabaret Voltaire, The Opal Lounge (Mother Funk) and Studio 24 - as well as performing at the Rat Race event at the bandstand of Princes Street Gardens
  • Festival Appearances at the Wickerman Festival 2006 and Big In Falkirk.
  • Support Slots for the likes of Electro-meister Midge Ure, chart busting Goldie Lookin' Chain and Mercury Prize-winner Ms. Dynamite, jazz-funk faves The James Taylor Quartet, Crazy P and Fertile Ground.
  • Hosting a series of legendary studio parties at our base and a Friday night club residency in Club Favela, Glasgow.
